Gondia:To enhance regional connectivity, Star Air has announced a new direct flight service between Gondia and Indore, set to commence in April 2025. It is noteworthy that the Airports Authority of India has resolved the long-standing issue of night-time takeoffs and landings at Birsi Airport. Following this development, airline companies are now keen to launch passenger flight services from Birsi Airport.
After receiving the green signal from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), a three-member team from Star Air visited Gondia’s Birsi Airport to inspect the travel-related infrastructure and passenger facilities. Satisfied with the arrangements, the officials confirmed that the Gondia-Indore flight service will begin in April 2025. This flight will not only benefit passengers from Maharashtra but also from neighboring states like Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. With this service, travelers will be able to reach Indore from Gondia in just 60 minutes.
Star Air will operate the E-170 jet, an 88-seater aircraft, for both direct and connecting flights between Gondia and Indore. According to the airline, this new route will not only support tourism in nearby attractions like Kanha Kesari, Nagzira Sanctuary, and Navegaon Bandh Tiger Reserve, but also promote economic growth in the region. The flight from Indore will arrive in Gondia at 11:30 AM and depart back to Indore at 12:30 PM.
Previously, due to the lack of flight services, pilgrims traveling for the darshan of Mahakal in Ujjain and the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirling had to face significant travel hardships. This historic flight service will now save a considerable amount of travel time for such passengers.
The objective of launching the direct Gondia-Indore flight is to reduce travel time and benefit business professionals, tourists, and pilgrims. This new air service reflects Star Air's commitment to improving regional air connectivity.
Importantly, the DGCA has now permitted Birsi Airport to operate missions and actions based on weather conditions and forecasts, adding to its operational flexibility.
Thanks to the efforts of Member of Parliament Praful Patel and the Birsi Airport Authority, the issue of night landing and takeoff has now been fully resolved.
Gondia – Hyderabad – Tirupati: 40,000 Passengers in One Year
On December 1, 2023, IndiGo Airlines launched services on the Gondia-Hyderabad-Tirupati route, which has received an overwhelming response. In 2024 alone, more than 40,000 passengers traveled via Gondia’s Birsi Airport.
Now, IndiGo and other airlines have started planning additional routes such as Gondia–Mumbai, Gondia–Pune, and Gondia–Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Earlier, the main hurdle was the lack of night landing facilities, which has now been resolved.
Once the new Navi Mumbai Airport becomes operational, air traffic congestion is expected to ease, and direct flight services from Gondia to Mumbai will be launched soon.
